Clinical Study of Paranoid Disorder


Abstract
This study was attempted to reveal the clinical features of 37 cases of paranoid disorder
patients who had been hospitalized in the Dept. of Neuropsychiatry, Yoido St. Mary¢¥s Hospital,
Catholic Medical College during the period from Jan. 1st, 1974 to Oct. 30th, 1981. The results were as follows;
1. The frequency in the psychiatric hospital admission is 1.09%.
2. According to the clinical categories, the conjugal paranoia was most frequently observed, and occupied 54. 1 % of all.
3. The ratio of male patient and female patients was 1 : 1. 31.
4. The mean age of index admission was 42.5 years and that of onset was 38.9 years. The mean duration of illness was 3.6 years.
5. The educational background revealed that 37.8% of the patients were college-graduated and 32.4% of the patients were primary school-graduated.
6. As to the socioeconomic background of the patients, the cases of upper class were 16.2¡Æ0, that of upper-middle class 21.6%, and that of middle class 40.5% The socioeconomic backg¡þround of patients seemed to be at the higher socioeconomic level.
7. As to the marital status, 97.3% of all experienced marriage, and 94.6% of all were maintaining marital life.
8. Delusion of jealousy and persecution were clearly the most common.
9. In the non-delusional symptoms, the suicide attempts was 18. 9% of all.
10. Patients with paranoid disorder had a satisfactory work history. The precipitating factors were not striking. The patients were considered to have been chronically jealous and suspicious. 11. As to the condition at discharge, the cases that werre discharged at the state of improvements of the non-delusional symptoms without the insight were 51.6% of all.
12. As to the further OPD care after discharge, the cases that did not at all be cared at the OPD were 48.7%, and the cases that were cared during the period of 1 month were 27.0%.
